Alan Bardwell, Accountant
Alan Bardwell is Dear Accountant's head of operations. Alan has been a provider of inventory valuation, data collection, and reverse distribution services to pharmacies and hospitals since 1988. His experience and competencies include inventory valuation and management systems, spreadsheet and database applications, tax preparation, and bookkeeping.
Professional interests include the effects of the new GS1 Healthcare Bar-coding standards on the pharmacy industry, International Financial Reporting standards (IFRS), and Extensible Business Reporting Language (XBRL).
Memberships include the Virginia Society of Certified Public Accountants (VSCPA), the Association of Government Accountants (AGA), and the Small Business Institute (SBI), and the National Association of Certified Bookkeepers
Alan holds a Bachelor of Sciences Degree in Accounting (cum laude) from Liberty University in Lynchburg, VA.
Stephanie Huneycutt Bardwell, JD, LLM
Dr. Stephanie Bardwell serves as a strategic planner and legal adviser for Dear Accountant. She is an active member of the California Bar and New York Bar, specializing in business law, intellectual property, and international standardization issues.
An Associate Professor of Management at Christopher Newport University in Newport News, VA, Stephanie served as Dean of the Joseph E. Luter School of Business for the 2007-2008 academic year, as well as Management & Marketing Department Chair from 2002-2007, and 2008-2009.
Dr. Bardwell is currently serving as the 2011 President of the Small Business Institute Directors Association, and is on the Board of Advisers of the Hampton Roads Technology Incubator. Other memberships include the International Academy of Information Management, the International Atlantic Economic Society, and Beta Gamma Delta.
Dr. Bardwell holds a Master of Laws in Taxation from the Marshall-Wythe School of Law of the College of William and Mary in Williamsburg, Virginia, a J.D. from Golden Gate University School of Law in San Francisco, California, and is a graduate of S.U.N.Y. Albany with a Bachelor of Arts (cum laude) in History and Education.
Mary E. Barela, RHIA, M.A.
Mary E. Barela is Dear Accountant's Health Information Technology (HIT) adviser. She is certified as a Registered Health Information Administrator (RHIA). Her proven skills are in the areas of Quality Assurance and HIPPA literacy. Mary?s professional interests lie in confidentiality related fields, such as Health Information Management.
Mary has been an instructor at Texas State Technical College in Sweetwater, TX, where she taught
- Quality Assurance and Performance Improvement;
- Legal and Ethical Aspects of Health Care, and ;
- Health Care Delivery Systems.
Professional memberships include the American Health Information Management Association (AHIMA) and the Texas Health Information Management Association (TXHIMA).
Ms. Barela holds a Masters Degree in Health Information Management from Abilene Christian University in Abilene, TX (3.91 GPA),a s well as two Bachelor degrees, one from Stephens College of Columbia, MO in Health Information Management, and from CSU-Fullerton, CA in Business Administration

Leland Jordan, Ph.D., CGFM
Dr. Leland G. Jordan is an Associate Professor Emeritus in the Luter School of Business at Christopher Newport University, Newport News, Virginia. At the time of retirement in May 2008, Dr. Jordan served as Chair of the Department of Accounting, Economics, and Finance in the Luter School.
Dr. Jordan?s tenure in the Office of the Secretary of Defense included service in the Office of the Under Secretary for Acquisition and Technology and the Office of the Assistant Secretary for Financial Management. Dr. Jordan?s military service included tours as a finance officer at Chateauroux AFB, France and as Chief of the Cost and Economic Analysis Division in SAC Headquarters, Offutt AFB, Nebraska.
As a civilian, Dr. Jordan served in the Directorate of Budget, Headquarters, US Air Force and in the Program and Budget Division, Office of the Department of Defense Comptroller.
He is a former member of ASMC and a member of the American Association of Budget and Program Analysis (AABPA), the American Accounting Association, the Institute of Operations Research and Management Science (INFORMS), and the Society of Cost and Economic Analysis.
A retired member of the Senior Executive Service, Dr. Jordan has a DBA from George Washington University, a MS (Systems Analysis) from the Air Force Institute of Technology, a B.S. from the University of Florida, and is a CGFM. He has published in a number of academic and professional journals.
Gabrielle Lingenfelter, CPA, MBA
Gabrielle Lingenfelter has a CPA license in Oklahoma and Virginia. She teaches accounting and auditing for the Luter School of Business at Christopher Newport University in Newport News, Virginia.
Current memberships include the Audit and Attestation Committee of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants (AICPA), numerous committees of the Virginia Society of Certified Public Accountants (VSCPA), and the Society for Case Research, for which she is a chair at the annual meeting and a reviewer of submitted papers.
Gabrielle is the recipient of the Elijah Watts Sells Certificate of Distinction from the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants (given to less than 1% of those receiving certification in 1988). Additionally, she received an award for receiving the 2nd highest score on the CPA exam in Oklahoma in November 1988.
Mrs Lingenfelter holds an Undergraduate Degree in Accounting from Cameron University, Lawton, OK and a Masters in Business Administration from Northwest Missouri State University.
